DIY: Millefoglie scarf

Totally Tutorials Blog

The legendary Millefoglie yarn

The lovely Millefoglie scarf

I think this is probably my 5th post about the Millefoglie scarf. You guys are probably getting tired of me talking about one silly scarf. But this is the TUTORIAL for making the scarf!

The yarn label of the Millefoglie yarn

Don’t have the Millefoglie yarn? That’s ok! I’ve taken close-ups of each type of yarn and added some descriptions for your reference:
Soft, glittery yarn

Velvety, dark purple yarn

Furry, dark purple yarn

Plain maroon yarn

Soft, slightly furry light pink yarn
So, maybe you can go through your stash and see what you can put together! This is starting to sound like a great destashing project. (^_^)

Materials:
1 ball of Millefoglie yarn or alternative yarn combinations (see below for details)
1 pair of 7mm knitting needles
Plastic pearl beads (amount may vary, but I used 56)

Now, after gathering all your materials, it’s time to start knitting!

Preparing your yarn:
1. If you are using the Millefoglie yarn, you will have to unwind the yarn to the part where the plain yarn is. There will be a knot between the furry yarn and the plain yarn. Undo the knot!

2. Prepare a short length of sewing thread and a bead. Loop the sewing thread around the yarn. Thread a bead (or 2 if you are impatient) through the sewing thread.

3. Then while holding the sewing thread firmly with one hand, hold on to the bead and pull with the other hand!

4. Your yarn has a bead in it now! Continue to thread your beads through. I used 56 beads in total for my scarf but you may use more depending on the length of the plain yarn that you want to have for your scarf. No harm adding more beads to the yarn because you can just remove the excess as you knit along.

5. Now space the beads equally throughout the entire length of the plain yarn. It’s much easier for you to reach for the bead as you knit along. Re-join the plain yarn (now with the newly added pearls) back to the furry yarn with the same knot that you undid before you added the pearls. Wind the yarn back into a ball.

6. Start knitting from the beginning!!!

Steps:
1. CO 20 stitches

2. Row 1-3: K20
Row 4: *K2, wrap yarn around needle 3 times and then push the bead to the knitting needle, K2* repeat across the row (ending with K2)

Row 5: *K2, drop the wrapped yarn, K2* repeat across the row (ending with K2)

3. Sometimes the bead will get stuck in a stitch. Just push it through the stitch so that is positioned in the dropped stitch.

4. Repeat until the scarf reaches desired length. Remember to change your yarn when necessary/desired if you are not using the Millefoglie yarn. My scarf measures about 60.5 inches length when the knots are untied and excluding the fringe.

5. End with 3 rows of knit.

6. Cut several pieces of the light pink yarn for the fringe. I used around 12cm for each piece.

7. Fold each piece into half and loop it through a stitch at the end of the incomplete scarf with the
help of a crochet hook.

8. Continue until desired look is achieved for both ends of the scarf.

9. Tie a knot near each end of the scarf.

10. Show your scarf to the world!

I hope that my instructions and pictures are clear enough for you to follow through. Do feel free to comment below or to ask me any questions!

I’d love to see your creations! (^_^)v

If I were a red balloon, I'd be both red and round

Also seen here at Chictopia

I really apologise for that abysmal post of my Millefoglie scarf. That picture really did not do any justice to the scarf that I have grown to love so much.

So here I am once again, posting up pictures of me and my lovely Millefoglie scarf, and taking a great risk of making the impression of being a cam whore. Maybe I am. Then again, we're only young once.

A picture of the Millefoglie scarf in full.

You can see all the different types of yarn that makes up the scarf! All these types are found in a single ball. The yarn just changes as you knit along. BUT! I added the plastic pearls to the plain maroon bit on my own.

Soft, glittery yarn

A knot I made.

I tied simple knots near the ends of the scarf to shorten it and... well, to make it more stylish. I think it makes it look more chic.

This is where I make my stuff

♥♥♥

I really LOVE this icon that I made last night. The colours, the faded vintage effect, the rounded edges, the cutest font ever... I could stare at this the whole day. (Hint: follow the links to try to create the same effect!)

Ok, sorry if I sound crazy, but this is the first time that I have made something like this! This is the first time that I am making something this fancy for my blog. My blog finally got a lot more serious!

*throws fists into the air, World Cup style

image: source

Whooo... World Cup fever is on the rise. But that's not the reason why I am rejoicing. My examinations have finally ended!!! Let's not talk about how I screwed up one paper and how I was late for another... =.=

The important thing is, I finally have more time on hand to materialise all the craft ideas that have been floating around in my head for ages. So, do check this space more often this month to see what I'm up to!
(That's to say that I don't get too depressed over my results when it comes out)

But, first on my to-do list for this hard-earned break:

1. Finish Season 8, 9 and 10 of Friends

2. Tidy my room

3. Watch Portugal vs. Brazil (maybe)

that's all folks!!!

FO: Floral Brooch for Art Swap

ART SWAP 2010

I was invited by my English teacher from secondary school to take part in an art swap.Well, it happened a month ago and I was supposed to send this out... many weeks ago.

But I have only just sent it out this week. I really really hope that she doesn't mind. I wanted to take part in it but it was hard to find time with all my school work and clinic placement (and addiction to watching Friends).

Better late than never. This phrase is really becoming my favourite excuse.

All right, enough of the prologue. Here are the pictures:

I made the flower using a floral fabric that I bought off ebay not too long ago. The centre of the flower is actually a vintage-looking gold and cream button that I got from a local craft and fabric store. I absolutely adore how the floral prints and the button go so well together!

FO: Pencil Scarf

This scarf was made around the time when I first started knitting... around 3 years ago, I think. And I finally got to take a decent picture of it today! I think the idea of a pencil as a scarf is really cute, but many people don't realise that it's supposed to be pencil until I tell them (-_-).

Want one? Get the free pattern of the scarf here!

Oh, and the geeky frames are the ones that I made not too long ago over here.

An American Dream...

Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!!! The package from Etsy has arrived! The Heart of America Vest Panel that oozes with the smell of vintage goods.

But I think the adult S size is still pretty big for me. I'll have to try to alter it on my own...

This aside, I've also been addicted to watching Friends, making PB&J sandwiches and dipping Oreos into cold milk. :)

I'm living the American dream baby!
