Happy Chinese New Year!
I've been back in Singapore for more than a month now but I still haven't really settled in. All of my boxes have been unpacked but there are bits and pieces of things scattered around my room still. I can't wait to get my room done up so I could show everyone here what it looks like!
Meanwhile, I just celebrated Chinese New Year so I thought I should just post a couple of photos for now - lest people start forgetting that I even exist.
I still have a few sewing projects from last year which I have not written about. Till then!

Pretty in Pink
Yes, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the 80's cult classic by John Hughes. But this post is not about all the pretty clothes worn by Andie (Molly Ringwald), the boyish good looks of Blane (young Andrew McCarthy) or the unforgettable dance moves by the Duck Man (Jon Cryer). Maybe I can talk about all that in another post in the future. But for now, I am just going to talk about how I've been rather 'inspired' by the colour pink lately. Yes, for some reason, the colour pink has creeped into my life...
And.... last but not least... a set of pink velvet tracksuit. Judge me for all you like, but I think this set of tracksuit is AWESOME. I couldn't help it. The jacket and pants were just $3.50 each (i.e. $7 in total). There were pink, sapphire blue and black. Black is boring. Blue is not my colour. So... I opted for pink. All I need now is a chihuahua in my arms... (P.S.: Of course I'm not going running in this tracksuit. I don't go running at all...)
Oh oh!!! And also, I have been working on something... Here's a sneak preview... It's still not complete. Hopefully I'll be able to write a post about it soon! :D
That's the end of the pink vomit post. So, what colour has been inspiring you lately?

FO: (Not just) another hat
So... I knitted another hat as a present for my friend's 21st birthday! I made it using the pattern from here. As usual, I followed the pattern for the first half of it and ditched the pattern after that. Moreover, the pattern didn't really give specific instructions for decreasing the stitches, so I simply did whatever I thought would look good. Also, instead of using the brick-stitch all the way to the top, I used only the pink yarn for the top bit so that it would give better contrast when I add the white pom pom. But I feel that the pom pom I made is just a little too small.
The hat
Cute fabric label
Work in progress...
- Make a bigger pom pom
- Use needles that are one size smaller when knitting the ribbed edge at the beginning (I can't believe I totally forgot about that... :S)
- Use variegated yarn for the contrasting yarn.... I imagine that the effect would be rather awesome...
All right, that's all for now! I'm off to take a short nap because my medicine is making me really tired. Yes... I've been sick for a week... and I really hope that I will be better soon. T_T

FO: Doris Day Scarf
Warning: This post contains pictures of a scarf made using a yarn of such bright colour that it may potentially harm your eyes!
Hello everyone, how was the weekend? I've been making so many things in this holiday, I don't think that I will have the time to write about all of them on the blog on time! I'll just do one thing at a time from now on...
This is a crochet Doris Day scarf made using 100% acrylic Marvel 8 ply yarn in SHOCKING PINK. A definite head-turner and attention-seeker. I saw the free pattern on Vickie Howell's blog and finished it in a single day. Yes, one single day! If I want to be more specific, it would be 2 movies and 2 replays of my favourite mix-tape containing the greatest 1950s hits. Of course I had breaks in between...
But I have to say that I am not as happy with this as I am with my Mega-Cable scarf. The acrylic yarn made the scarf rather stiff. It doesn't look like the soft and bouncy scarf that the model in the pattern is wearing at all. Perhaps it is my fault for not using a 100% silk yarn as stated in the pattern. Damn. My fault for not being rich enough.
Nevertheless, I think that it'll still look good once it's matched with clothes that complement its colour and ruffles. I sure hope that the person receiving this will like it. :)
One last thing before I go, for people who may not know, Doris Day is actually an American actress who was around even before the time of coloured TV! I have never seen any of her movies or TV shows though. Maybe I should do that to get to know more about Vickie Howell's inspiration behind this scarf.
