DIY: Rosette and Lace - Refashioned Tee

Wheee! Another DIY post! These babies just keep rolling in, don't they? I am loving this winter break.


I've been thinking of doing a simple refashion project for a long time. Then something happened and I HAD to do it. No prizes for guessing what it is because I'm going to show you the pictures of the rather unfortunate incident.

Yes this is what the washing machine did to my tank top. It ripped it right across at the back! And how unfortunate that it's not located at some place where I can do some strategic sewing or patching. Oh whatever. 


What is done, is done. So I simply cut the strip, gathered a few beads, a section of lace ... and got this after less than 30 minutes.

So, if your washing machine is also an angry, tank-ripping machine, come follow the steps and create your own refashioned Rosette and Lace Tee!


Materials:
Plain top
1 strip of t-shirt
Pearl and clear beads
Lace
Sewing needle and thread


Steps:
NOTE: You may want to practice the steps and see if you like how your rosette looks before attempting to sew it into position.

1. Cut the bottom of your tee (the hem) to yield a 36cm strip. You can use a longer strip to make a bigger flower or a shorter one to make a smaller flower.

2. Fold down to create a triangle at one of the ends. Sew into position.

3. Crease the lower part of the strip and fold it towards the triangle. Sew into position.

4. Crease at a lower part along the strip again, this time a further distance away from the 2nd crease. Sew into position.

5. Turn the strip towards the first triangle to cover the bottom part of the triangle. Sew into position.

6. Crease and turn it anti-clockwise. The first triangle should be partially covered. Sew into position.

7. Fold the strip down while turning the strip anti-clockwise. Sew into position.

8. Continue folding and turning at random and sew into position. You should get a rosette that looks something like this. It's ok if your rosette looks lightly different from mine. That's the beauty of it! 

9. Sew the rosette onto your plain top. Don't sew it all around the edges because we need to add the lace! Sew beads to the centre.

10. Get a section of lace. 

11. Fold the straight edge of the lace left and right like an accordion. Sew it in place.

12. Tuck the folded bit of the lace into a corner of the rosette. Sew it in place.

13. Tuck the 2 ends of the lace under the rosette and sew it in place.


There you have it, a t-shirt flower with lace as its leave. (^_^)

P.S.: Ok, so you may be thinking that I still have the rest of the tank that I have not cut and used... Well, I'm keeping them at the moment and waiting to see what comes to my mind. I don't want to waste an inch of the tank!!!

FO: Put a Ring on It (Pearls and Diamonds Ring)

Oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh... *humming Beyonce's hit song...

I finally got the chance to post pictures of this Pearls and Diamonds ring! I got the tiny ring pack from Spotlight quite a while ago. It was in the SALE basket and had a reduced price of $1!!! What a steal!!!

As you can see from the pictures above, the pack comes with everything you need to complete the ring. There are even instructions for it! But I personally think that the instructions are crap. Either that or I just couldn't do it accordingly. So I thought to myself, "Screw that, I'll just do it my own way." I'm glad that I did. I even have some beads left over! And of course I'm keeping them for possible future projects.


Sorry about all these blur pictures. There are 2 reasons for this. Firstly, I can't be very stable with my hand, especially when I could only use one of them since the other one is posing for the ring. I've tried taking pictures of the ring on my table, but the results are not great. The ring looks better on a finger. Secondly, it should be obvious that I edited the pictures to give it a soft focus and a more romantic feel. Blur = romantic. Something new eh?

Most importantly, this post is reminder to all that contrary to what my blog title suggests, this is not a blog that is about knitting and knitting and... knitting. This is a craft blog and I write about anything and everything that I have made (^_^).

Millefoglie progresses...

I'm loving this Easter break so far. I'm doing my work with minimal procrastination and I am getting my knitting done! 

But I had a rough start for this precious ball of Millefoglie. I didn't have a pattern in mind when I casted on. I was thinking something between a scarf and a shawl, then i decided that one ball is not going to be enough. If I remember correctly I casted on ... thrice. And not to mention how tough it is to frog the yarn! That initial pink furry bit where all the furs get tangled together. 

It all finally came together when I decided to do drop stitches! Yes, a great solution for limited yardage of yarn. You get a longer scarf by cheating.

So, this is how my yarn has been in just 2 days! Don't laugh, damn it. I've got other work to do, so this IS good progress. But I had to stop here for the day because I realised that I don't have enough pearls for the dark red bit and gotta run down to get another pack. But I got down in the late afternoon and by then the shops have closed. (T_T)

I'll go there first thing in the morning tomorrow.

I really really love the pearl additions!!! 

Holding out a piece of my heart...

Easter break is here!!! Oh god, oh god.

I've been waiting for Easter to come so that I can start givin' some more lovin' to my craftin'.

First up! The absolutely gorgeous Millefoglie yarn that I bought from Spotlight last year during their sale. I only got one ball because the other few balls left were in a pathetic mess from all the rummaging. Geez, I really can't stop admiring it at all. 

This yarn is made up of different yarns of various texture and material. I added little pearls with an orange/pink undertone to the section of plain red yarn. I think it really gave it some extra special quality to it. What do you think?

As I was winding and unwinding the ball of yarn while spacing out the little pearls, I realised that the ball of yarn became a little heart-shaped ball! Ah, perhaps this is the sign of a good start? (n_n)

Hopefully I will be able to get some 7mm knitting needles from Vinnies tomorrow and start casting on soon. I've been wanting to cast this yarn on for so long!

(When I enter 'Millefoglie' into Google, pictures of some tasty sweet pastry comes up. I've never tried it before but now I'd like to!)
